Welcome to Towers Watches

I'm Eric, and I've been modding my own Casio watches since early 2023. In June of 2023, I came up with the idea to start selling my custom watches because of two key reasons:1. There weren't enough high quality mods with cohesive, classic looks.
2. Narrow lug widths;

Hidden lugs

Unlike traditional round watches, most Casio watches hide their lugs under the case. This creates a "lugless" look where the strap blends with the case. For this to work, the lugs on most Casios are narrower than the case itself. This however means that the strap fitted between these lugs would also be narrower than the case. This is why Casio adds "notches" to their straps, which allow the wider strap to fit into the narrower lugs. For example, the F-91W features a strap that starts at 22 mm and tapers down to 16 mm, but the lug section that connects with the watch lugs is 18 mm.

What if you want to swap out the strap on your Casio for your own?

You get a rather disproportionate looking strap.Due to the 18mm lugs of the watch, you're stuck with fitting 18mm straps to the otherwise 22mm wide watch case, with the end result looking quite awkward.

The solution

Most people will simply opt for a standard 18mm strap to fit easily to the 18mm lugs of their Casio, while others will use adapters to fit wider straps to the watch. I wasn't satisfied with either of these options, so I began using the same method that Casio does to create its seamless strap look by manually adding notches to my custom straps.

The same way nylon straps are heat-sealed during manufacturing, I realized I can manually make notches in my NATOs by melting the material in the precise points I want to create notches, cutting them out, and heat-sealing again to finalize the process.Since 2023, I've been using this method to create notched NATO straps specifically tailored for Casio watch lugs, blending the strap perfectly in proportion to the watch.

The result

Custom Casio watches with straps perfectly tailored to their unique lug widths.Sometimes the strap doesn't need to perfectly reach the full width of the watch, as is the case with my Vintro mod, which features a 20 mm notched leather strap as opposed to the full width of 22 mm I typically have with my NATOs.Be it nylon or leather straps, cohesiveness is the aesthetic goal of all my mods, so I always pay attention to the proportions of the watch and strap, and notch accordingly.

Programming your NFC chip

Video credit: Fusion NFC on YouTube

1. Download NFC tag app

There are various apps that will do the job, such as NFC TagWriter available for both Android and iOS.

2. Set up app for programming

While steps may vary depending on the app, generally all of them will follow some variation of this process:1. Select "write to tag"
2. Select "new dataset"
3. Select the option corresponding to the type of data you're programming, e.g. "link" if you're programming a link.
4. If asked what tag type you have, select "NTAG 213".
5. When programming your chip, make sure to hold your watch steadily to your phone to ensure data is transferred properly.

3. Scanning your NFC chip

The NFC chip used in your watch is small and covered by the watch case and other internal components, so the range will be limited. The NFC component in your phone will be located in a specific place on the back of your phone, so if your phone isn't picking up the watch, move the watch slowly around the phone to find where it best picks up the watch. Note that phone cases can reduce signal strength, the more material is added between the phone and watch.

Eric Thurn

I'm a marketing student, hobbyist photographer, and watch modder based in Exeter, England.I got my first Casio watch, the W-86, when I was a teenager in secondary school. Although it was very simple, I loved the functional, retro design. I didn't care much for watches at the time, but this unassuming timepiece was ultimately what sparked my later interest in horology.I've also always been a tinkerer, restoring old laptops and modding android devices since my teenage years.Today I am a major watch enthusiast. I particularly love vintage-style chronographs and field watches. But my respect and appreciation for the simplicity, efficiency and unique look of Casio's digital watches has never dwindled - only grown. It is no wonder then, that my history with Casio watches, combined with my background in technology and design has led me to this hobby of mine; watch modding, and the resulting creation of Towers Watches.
